In 1900 the German
magnate Krupp financed the construction of a street to be used for traveling on
foot that connected the Quisisana - where he lived - to Marina Piccola. Built with great skill by engineer Emilio Mayer, it has been called "the world's most beautiful road", thanks to the way it hugs the cliffs and the appropriate use of local construction materials.
